Alex is a current professional footballer who puts his experience from playing and working with some of the best managers and coaches in the game into his own coaching methods.Alex came through Newcastle United academy before leaving the club at 19 to join Preston North End. In this time Alex also represented Wales at international level from U16s to U21s.
His coaching career started when he left Preston North End working on programmes in schools, disability sessions and grassroots players which has added to his experience within sport. Alex still plays professionally in the National League North, so to have a coach who is still playing in the modern game is great for us to have at DUGOUT Coaching to pass on his knowledge to younger players.
Jake is head of strength and conditioning at DUGOUT Coaching. He has extensive knowledge in working with athletes at all levels in order to improve overall fitness and performance. Jake currently works as a qualified level 3 personal trainer for his own company JT Fitness. He specialises in athletic performance, nutrition, recovery and 1 to 1 technical football sessions.
Before becoming a personal trainer, Jake studied in the United States of America on a four year football scholarship. He was part of Union College, Kentucky's most successful football programme in its history winning two conference titles and appearing in two consecutive national finals. In 2017 he graduated with a degree in exercise science. Jake has played semi-professional football for a number of well established North East clubs including Blyth Spartans, Ashington, Bedlington Terriers and Heaton Stannington. Jake currently plays for Newcastle Benfield in the Northern League.
Sam is a current professional goalkeeper for Gateshead FC in the National League North. His playing career started at Huddersfield Town at the age of 16 where he gained a professional contract in 2014 working with managers such as Simon Grayson, Chris Powell and David Wagner. During his time there he gained valuable playing experience at a number of clubs including Salford City and Clitheroe FC in the Evo-Stik leagues. After this period Sam was given the opportunity to be part of the England B1 blind football team which is a totally different experience of playing. The goalkeepers play a vital role in communication during the game as they are the only sighted players on the team.
Ever since Sam completed his coaching qualifications while at Huddersfield, he has had a desire to help the younger generation of players coming through grassroots football and academy systems by passing on his experience and knowledge of the game. Having Sam on board with us at DUGOUT Coaching is great as he can help develop players in what is such a specialised and important position.
Darren has always had a love of football and has been involved with the game since an early age both playing and coaching. Darren also had a successful rugby league career playing for both Leigh Centurions and Warrington Wolves before making the move into coaching. Darren has great experience working with all age groups from 4-6 year old sessions to being involved with U18 programmes.
Darren puts his understanding and way of coaching down to working with and shadowing some of the best coaches in the professional game in rugby league, especially the way to manage a group of players and get the best out of each individual. Darren's experience in coaching is not just in football and rugby but a whole range of programmes such as disability sessions and school curriculum coaching meaning Darren is a really valuable member of our team at DUGOUT Coaching.
